Professor and Canada Excellence Research Chair, Department of Zoology, Department of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of British Columbia
Kayla is a Professor in the Departments of Zoology and Microbiology & Immunology at the University of British Columbia, and she is also a Professorial Fellow at Oxford University. Her group investigates the contemporary evolution and ecology of host-pathogen interactions using experiments of animal-pathogen systems in the lab, comparative analyses across species, and hypothesis-driven pathogen surveillance in wild terrestrial and aquatic animals. She is interested in the effects of a warming climate and biodiversity loss on wildlife health during infection. Her research also explores the microbiome dynamics underlying animal health across environments.
